Gas Holder Site, Reading, Berkshire
Client: Berkeley Homes and Audley
LPA: Reading Borough Council
Boyer secured the approval of Reading Council for the regeneration of the Gas Holder site for 130 homes and a Riverside Park. Due to the constrained nature of the small site, bounded by the railway lines and River Kennet, and ground conditions from the former industrial use, the scheme was designed to provide landmark buildings of 3, 5 and 9 storeys, whist also respecting the neighbouring Conservation Area. Boyer led on stakeholder engagement and planning negotiations to achieve a resolution to grant planning permission which achieved development significantly higher than the prevailing residential character and which delivered a reduced level of affordable housing, justified on viability grounds.
